Making Room for Jesus This Christmas! ~ Christmas Eve Service 2021

Luke 2:5-7
5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no…room available for them.

The late Adrian Rogers once said,

“It’s been my observation that people, rather than being drawn closer to Christ at Christmas, in a very real sense are drawn away from the Lord Jesus. It seems like, in the very midst of the celebration, we lose Jesus.”

So what is the purpose of Christmas?

In the Purpose of Christmas, Rick Warren writes:
Christmas is a party. Specifically, it’s a birthday party-for Jesus-and birthdays are meant to be celebrated. It’s why we say, “ Merry Christmas.” Ironically, at most Christmas parties the person whose birthday we are suppose to be celebrating is completely ignored. He’s never mentioned.

Although Jesus is the reason for the season, he’s often overlooked or merely mentioned along with Rudolph, Frosty the snowman, Santa Claus, the grinch, elves, and a lost

Have a Birthday party for Jesus:
-Get a b-day cake for Jesus!
-Sing some Christmas carols.
-Read the Christmas story from the Bible, Luke 2:1-20; Matthew 2:1-12.
-Each person shares answers to two questions:
1. What am I thankful to God for this year?
2. What am I going to give Jesus for his birthday?
-Close by prayer for one another.

Psalms 103:1-5
Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits;
3 Who pardons all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases;

Psalms 23:4
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
